Most people lead in a way that shows the belief that their “era” of leadership is the “golden age” for that organization. But that isn’t the mark of great leadership; it’s the mark of capable, but ego-filled, leadership. The mark of great leadership is that the organization is able to be “better once you’re gone”, not better “because you’re gone”, to continue to grow and develop even after you’re gone. So how do you lead so that it will be better after you’re gone.
1. You like the attention of being the leader & if they fail, or struggle, the attention stays on you.
2. You feel their failure enhances your credibility.
3. Existing members complaining keeps you connected to the community.
4. It was never about the mission, it was always just about expanding your platform
